Come to a resolution about the meaning of the events, or challenge the audience to consider the implications of the story.
State the main ideas of the text you are summarizing—just the big-picture components. What Makes Something a Summary? True summary may also outline past work done in a field; it sums up the history of that work as a narrative.

Finding the main idea of a short work might require a closer line-by-line reading. Neither approach builds an argument. It is thus best suited to descriptions of primary sources that you plan to analyze.
If a text is organized in a linear fashion, you may be able to write a summary simply by paraphrasing the major points from the beginning of the text to the end. A point made in the beginning of an essay and then one made toward the end may need to be grouped together in your summary to concisely convey the argument that the author is making.
One page of summary and two of comparison? You might summarize a section from a source, or even the whole source, when the ideas in that source are critical to an assignment you are working on and you feel they need to be included, but they would take up too much space in their original form. You have to write a summary in six to eight pages.
